I came to know her as the angel on the dance floor. Over a year ago I took a couple of introductory dance classes at the Rhodes Dance Studio. Awkward and clumsy, I shrunk in total defeat. My two left feet seemed to be cleverly reminding me of why in the past I had made a point of avoiding anything remotely resembling a dance class. The secret fantasy I held onto of gliding across the dance floor with the grace and poise of an adored fan favorite on “Dancing with the Stars” quickly was becoming an editing room cut. Actually it was a performance that was deserving of being buried in a secured vault with the key thrown away. My mind conjured a version of my disastrous dance moves being turned into a spectacle shown for all to see, like the reruns of American Idol’s embarrassing audition moments. The moments I made myself watch while peering between my fingers as my hands covered my flushed face in embarrassment. Often when submerged in fear and paralyzed by focusing on what I think I cannot do, I loose sight of the very fact that my efforts of attempt are all that truly matter.
Stuck in my embarrassment, I was quickly brought back to reality by my new dance partner. Staring at my feet, concreting on my blundering moves I was interrupted by her voice telling me to “Look up, you already know what to do.” I was about to question where she had been as surely my novice dance steps didn’t go unnoticed. Yet as she held my gaze, I began to hear and feel the words she had shared with me. Slowly I was finding my grove on the dance floor. Suddenly I was dancing. It was a moment of truth. When living life looking downwards and always trying to get it perfect I was missing the dance steps of beauty and life all around me. Her message that day has never been forgotten nor has the angelic grace of her presence.
That angel on the dance floor was Crystal Heiderich. A former Rhodes graduate, she has a zest for life and sparkle in her eye that leaves you wondering what the secret is to her happiness. I was able to catch up with Crystal and find out about how her life has unfolded since graduation.
Q: What program and year did you graduate from Rhodes? A: I graduated from what used to be the Wellness Counseling & Lifestyle Management Program. I was one of the first people to take the second year’s program at Rhodes. I graduated from the Wellness Counseling diploma in 2006 and graduated with the Lifestyles Management diploma in 2007. Q: How did you come to be a student at Rhodes Wellness College? A: I believe that everything happens for a reason! I was just back from treatment for the symptoms of an eating disorder and knew that I had collected enough tools to turn that experience around and use it to inspire me to help people. Not knowing how or what that would I asked the Universe to show me the way. I was in a grocery store one day and something told me to buy a paper; I had never bought a paper before and thought the idea was a little weird. I followed through anyways, got home, and opened the paper right to the Rhodes College ad. within 3 months I packed up all my things from my small town of Kamloops and moved to the big city! Q: I love your business name, Crystalline Wellness, where did the inspirations behind it come from? A: After mulling over many names and stressing way to much about the "perfect" name, I finally let go of the search. Later when I was in the shower, where the best inspirations happen, I thought why not call it Crystalline. My name and line meaning you can get a Lifeline, call me on a line, email me a line. It just worked, and the word wellness makes it feel whole and complete. Because I am so diversified, Coaching or Counseling just didn't fit the bill. Q: What type of services does your business offer? A: My business is mostly over the phone. I do some in house requests but for the most part I work right out of my home. I am offering: The LifeLineTechnique TM, Life Coaching, Counseling, Wellness Consulting and Intuitive energy work. I am mostly doing the LifeLine Technique, coaching and Wellness Consulting :) Q: Can you share a little bit about the Lifeline Technique TM training you’ve received? A: I went down to Chicago and trained with a man named Dr. Darren Weissman. He taught me about the power of our subconscious and how we can harmonize the subconscious so we can thrive. Our sub conscious speaks to us through symptoms such as: addictions, phobias, stress, limiting beliefs, disease, and body aliments. The LifeLine is able to pinpoint the moment of disconnection when the decreased flow of emotion (energy in motion) took place. Through a gentle process you are able to then harmonize the sub conscious patterns through the power of infinite love and gratitude, a universal frequency. To learn more about it please go to my website for a more in depth explanation.
Q: What would you say makes you uniquely qualified to do the work you do? A: I would say that passion makes me qualified! Getting on the phone with a client brings so much joy to my life, and I genuinely love this work. I think that you have to have your heart in a place to know that you are not responsible for any of your clients lives and can only hold them in a place of unconditional love. I constantly remind myself that no one is broken or needs to be fixed, that they are perfect just the way they are. You have to learn to look past "the story" and see into the depths of a person, this is where the pureness lies.
Q: As a Rhodes graduate, what did you take away from your learning experience that has been a positive impact on where you are today? A: Rhodes taught me the skills I needed to be on my toes in all situations that come up with clients. Through all the experiential learning I just have a knowing of what to do, without a lot of thought. I know that Rhodes gave me the tools I needed to be an amazing compassionate coach and counselor! Q: What was the best advice ever given to you that you put into action in your life? A: Take responsibility for you life, as you are the creator. This saying is always in the back of my mind. I know that I can blame people and situations for what is "going wrong" in my life or why I am not where I want to be. But ultimately it is useless; as it only keeps me stuck! So I choose to take full responsibility for my own happiness, success, self esteem and self-worth. To believe in myself, as no one else can do it for me! I can have all the support, love, and acceptance from all those around me, but if I don't have that for myself all the reassurance in the world isn't going to help. I am the one taking each step in my life, so I choose to claim each one with confidence, grace, and acceptance!
Q: What words of wisdom would you share with current Rhodes students? A: Know that the only limitations that are set, are by you. Many people are worried about what they are going to do after Rhodes as they step out into the world. The best thing is to hold your head high and follow your bliss. Who cares what everyone else is doing and going! Focus on your passion, as no one else knows what that is for you. Look for the signs in your life that you are on the right path. If you feel like your pushing a bolder up a hill, allow a new path to emerge. But most importantly have FUN! We are all too serious! We are all meant to thrive, so let it in :)
