Improved outcomes, in conjunction with recognized skills training will also enhance organizational access to public and private funding, a constant challenge for those working in social services.

About Life Skills Programs and Addictions

For over 40 years, life skills programs have been used effectively in addictions recovery and treatment. In 1967, the Canadian Government funded various initiatives to celebrate Canada’s Centennial. The province of Saskatchewan used their funds to develop a highly effective and successful life skills program entitled Saskatchewan NewStart.

This NewStart life skills method of working with individuals included precise behaviour objectives and opportunities to practice these new behaviours. This program is commonly used in recovery houses and addiction treatment facilities. The “coaches” need very specific training in group facilitation and teaching problem solving skills. Including skills training has been proven to be one of the most effective methods to assist an addict or alcoholic in adjusting to a new lifestyle. Many do not have requisite skills to function effectively

The Addictions Counsellor Training Program includes Life Skills Coach Training, Counselling in Addictions, including Pharmacology, Families and Couples, Youth, Sexual Abuse Trauma, Employment Difficulties, Program Planning, and much more.
