Campus Closed

UPDATE AS OF JANUARY 18, 2024

ALL ONLINE CLASSES WILL CONTINUE AS NORMAL TODAY. Classes that were scheduled for in-person session(s) will be offered online instead, and you will hear from your instructor and/or TA with online meeting room details to connect (if your class is shifting from in-person to online).

Due to inclement weather, the physical campus based in Vancouver for Rhodes Wellness College is closed today. We are still answering phone calls and email and operating as normal.

EMERGENCY WEATHER & NATURAL DISASTER ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR ONLINE STUDENTS:

As students attending our online classes are located across Canada, each student, depending on the weather, is affected differently. While online classes can continue and you can usually connect regardless of weather, if you are affected with a power outage or other weather-related emergency or natural disaster (e.g., wildfires, snow storms, ice storms, etc.) that prevents you from participating in your online class, your absence will not be counted towards our absenteeism/minimum attendance requirement.

EMERGENCY WEATHER ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING IN-PERSON CLASSES:

If the campus is closed for any reason, including due to inclement weather, students attending in-person classes will have their class moved online. Details, including online meeting room links and any other pertinent information will be communicated by the instructor and/or Teaching Assistant (TA) of the class. If any student that normally attends class in-person still cannot attend online due to inclement weather or natural disaster affecting their abilities to connect with their class online (e.g., due to power outages, etc.) the same “Emergency Weather & Natural Disaster Attendance Policy for Online Students” detailed above will apply for their attendance.

Example for both online students and in-person students whose class has been shifted to online temporarily due to weather or natural disaster:

If you have already missed the maximum number of classes you are allowed to miss according to our attendance standards (see here for our Attendance & Illness Policy) , and due to inclement weather or natural disaster are not able to attend your online class, you will be granted up to a maximum of 5% leniency, as referred to in our Attendance & Illness Policy. Proof of weather conditions or the natural disaster affecting your ability to attend online may be required.

If you are at the maximum permitted absences for any class including the additional 5% leniency, you may be required to repeat portions of or the entire course, even if reasons for missing classes were unavoidable. Charges that normally apply to course retakes can be waived at the sole discretion of the college. Authorization for attendance leniency and potential reduction or waiving of fees for curriculum/course repeats can only be granted by the college’s student or academic advisor or one of the college’s directors.
