Rhodes Wellness College emphasizes patient-centred care, clinical reasoning, communication skills, and the therapeutic relationship alongside the development of hands-on massage therapy skills. Students learn within a holistic framework that considers the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence health and recovery.
The program places a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care, professional communication, therapeutic rapport, and critical thinking. Students are taught to critically examine traditional explanations for how massage therapy works and to integrate current evidence into their clinical reasoning.
The Rhodes RMT program uses a blended delivery model consisting of two on-campus days and two online mornings each week.
Online learning is reserved for subjects that do not require extensive hands-on instruction, allowing students to reduce commuting demands while maintaining access to faculty, classmates, and interactive learning experiences. Practical skills, assessment techniques, palpation, and clinical training are delivered on campus.
Students begin treating members of the public in Semester 3 through the Rhodes Wellness College Student Clinic.
Prior to entering clinic, students complete foundational training in assessment, treatment planning, communication, professionalism, ethics, and hands-on massage therapy skills.
Students complete a minimum of 330 hours of supervised direct patient care as part of their clinical education. Clinical training provides opportunities to develop assessment, treatment, communication, documentation, and professional practice skills under the supervision of Registered Massage Therapists.
Some students successfully maintain part-time employment while attending the program. However, the RMT program is academically rigorous and requires a significant commitment of time both inside and outside the classroom. Applicants should ensure that their education remains their primary focus and carefully consider their work commitments before enrolling.
Rhodes teaches massage therapy within a patient-centred and evidence-informed framework.
Students learn to consider the whole person rather than focusing solely on symptoms or physical structures. Training emphasizes communication, collaboration, informed consent, clinical reasoning, and individualized care. Students are encouraged to integrate current research, patient values, and clinical experience when making treatment decisions.
The Registered Massage Therapy program currently holds Preliminary Accreditation status with the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA). Rhodes Wellness College is scheduled to undergo its accreditation site visit in June 2026. Graduates become eligible for the BC registration examinations once the program has achieved Full Accreditation status through the CMTCA accreditation process.
