Associations

It is important that if you reside in these provinces, to still join an association that provides assurances to residents that you are abiding by a Code of Conduct, by a certain set of Ethics, and that there is some type of disciplinary system if your clients wish to bring a complaint forward. Both the Canadian Professional Counsellor Association (CPCA) offer this through their Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) designation and their Master Practitioner Clinical Counsellor (MPCC) designation. With a requisite Bachelor’s degree, students are required to study for 6 years or more, and costs often surpass $70,000 or more. Even if you already have a Bachelor’s degree that allows you direct entry into a Master’s in Counselling, these degrees are usually $40,000 – $80,000 on their own.
For individuals who are already in the workforce or are no longer fresh out of High School, ample time is not a luxury they have, and certainly most adults in Canada cannot easily afford to pay $60,000, $70,000 or more to obtain their education. A Professional Counsellor Diploma program can be completed with Rhodes Wellness College in 80 weeks and costs less than $28,000. If you want to start working sooner, a diploma offers a faster, more affordable path, and because it focuses on obtaining practical skills, students are ready to practice upon graduation.
Career Options After a Diploma
