Rhodes Podcast Episode 2 – The Inside Story with Harj Thiara

Episode 2 of the Rhodes Podcast: The Inside Story with Harj Thiara

Welcome back to the Rhodes Podcast: The Inside Story! In Episode 2, host Jameson Dean connects with Harj Thiara, a Rhodes graduate who has built a purpose-driven career as a registered counsellor, coach, instructor, and facilitator.

Harj’s story is one of transformation, courage, and connection. After a life-changing experience with a coach in 2015, she felt called to step into the wellness field herself. That journey eventually led her to Rhodes Wellness College.

Initially, Harj enrolled in the part-time coaching program. She quickly built a practice and began working with clients. However, she soon realized she wanted to go deeper. This desire brought her back to Rhodes in 2020 to pursue her Professional Counsellor Diploma.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How Harj transitioned from marketing to coaching and counselling
  • Why experiential learning at Rhodes made such a strong impact
  • How she grew her private practice during the pandemic
  • What helped her believe in herself and stay committed to the work
  • Her vision for One Truth Wellness, a holistic space for healing and connection

Throughout the episode, Harj speaks openly about navigating change. For example, she shares how her mother’s cancer diagnosis during the pandemic inspired her to deepen her path. She also explains how the Rhodes community helped her feel grounded during a time of global uncertainty.

“When there’s a breakdown, there’s often a breakthrough. And for me, Rhodes was the path that opened up next.”
– Harj Thiara

Later in the conversation, Harj and Jameson reflect on how the pandemic uprooted so many lives, but also gave space for self-reflection and growth. For Harj, this meant stepping into a new kind of purpose and choosing to serve others with compassion.

She also shares how she built her practice by leaning into authenticity, storytelling, and community. Instead of traditional marketing, she focused on connecting through her lived experience, something she encourages others to explore.

Whether you’re a student, a graduate, or someone curious about coaching and counselling, Harj’s journey is a powerful reminder that purpose often begins with healing. Most importantly, it’s a reminder that you don’t need to have everything figured out; you just need to take the next step.
